I recently read an article about how ‘Nostalgia’ has always been considered this ‘cliché’ thing. If you were nostalgic you were stuck in the past, overly sentimental, and unable to move forward. Researchers nowadays, however, are saying that it’s actually really beneficial for your mental health to be nostalgic; to remember happy memories with fondness. In fact, they say, when you’re feeling happy, it’s important to take pause, and try to take note of as much as you possibly can about that moment- the feelings, smells, noises, etc. so that your memory of it when looking back, will be as vivid as possible.
Kate and Allan’s Delta Ocean Pointe Resort wedding wasn’t that long ago… It was my first of the 2019 wedding season, but I’m already feeling nostalgic about it. So much about this wedding day will forever stay with me. That giddy smile Kate has in the header photo never left her face the entire day and night. I’ve never heard a bride exclaim ‘This is SO FUN! I am having the BEST DAY EVER!’, more than Kate did. She relished in her wedding day, and wasn’t afraid to say it! I love that.
I am so grateful to have had Kate and Allan as clients. Shortly after I had booked their wedding, I found out I was pregnant and my baby was due less than two months before Kate and Allan’s Delta Ocean Pointe Resort wedding was scheduled!!! Truth be told, I panicked. I was super torn between wanting to photograph this wedding so badly, but having no clue how I would feel postpartum, and if I would be up for it.
I reached out to a few fellow mom photographer’s and asked if this was do-able, or just plain crazy to attempt it. After hearing these mama’s experiences and opinions, I decided I was going to go for it. I talked to Kate and Allan about it, and they took a leap of faith, putting their trust in me that it would all work out.
I begged my baby every day to please not be late, LOL, as that would add to the challenge of shooting a wedding at 6-8 weeks postpartum. He listened ;), and even came four days early. The wedding day came and I had the wonderfully talented Danielle Lindenlaub by my side to help the day run as smoothly as possible. I felt nervous, but also really excited. As the day unfolded it felt really good to be there. When you have a newborn baby, you live in a bit of a time and space warp. It felt refreshing to step outside the warp for a days work; to be creative, social, and to document this incredible day for these two very special people.
Thank you so much to Kate and Allan, who were so incredibly supportive and trusting through the whole process of unexpectedly hiring a pregnant wedding photographer. Please visit my Contact Page to inquire about your upcoming wedding! I have a few openings left for 2020 still 🙂
